Wynnum Redlands Cycling Club (WRCC) has its base on the east side of Brisbane, an ideal area for both recreational and serious cycling. We attract both recreational cyclists and competitive cyclists, but all strive for one common purpose - that is to enjoy keeping fit on the bike and meeting new friends and social contacts. As such we cater for a wide range of cyclists and have club rides which would suit almost anyone, young old, fast or slow. Our race teams are well represented in most categories in the Queensland cycling league including open categories, juniors and masters. If you want to find out more about WRCC, you can email any of the Club contacts in the CONTACTS section of this website.
Rides departs from McDonalds in Capalaba at 5.30am sharp and heads to Camp Hill, across to Cannon Hill then Tingalpa, down to the esplanade at Wynnum and Manly before heading through Thorneside, Aquatic Paradise and Wellington Point. The ride then heads for Victoria point before finishing at Banjos Bakery in Cleveland. Subject to Safety provisions, there are a number of intervals and a sprint on the road at Cleveland point for those with the remaining energy. WRCC gets impressive triathlon results

WRCC is rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the triathlon circuit. Just have a look at our results on the last race of the Queensland sprint triathlon series! The race organizers had to change the race to a run-bike-run due to the tsunami warning that would have made the swim unsafe.

Luke Preston came first in one of the most competitive categories (30-35). Initially coming in second, he was moved up to first after the first place winner was disqualified. All that time trial training on Tuesdays must be paying off.

Anne Corrigal placed 3rd in the 50-55 age group, once again an excellent result considering that her strongest discipline, the swim, was canceled.

I also recall Alexia Wevers getting a prize at prize giving, for having won the Cool Kidz races for the entire series. I have had a look on the USM organisers site to get more details here without much luck, but will try to confirm these results as soon as possible.

and finally, the official WRCC team represented by Andy Francis and the Pres himself got the fastest team time after Andy built up an unassailable lead on the bike leg.

Its great to see our members getting involved and having some success in a broader spectrum of disciplines, and to see members supporting local events like the Raby Bay Triathlon series. It gives our club and sponsors more exposure to the local population and also encourages local racing. Well done to all involved!

CYCLISTS are taking to the roads in their thousands minus potentially life-saving helmets.

From Courier Mail

Although helmets have been compulsory for cyclists in Queensland since the early 1990s, police are issuing around 7500 fines a year to bare-headed bike riders.

The offence is by far the most common committed by cyclists on Queensland roads, according to statistics provided by Queensland Transport for 2007 to October 2009. Read more...

KOM West Mt. Cotton Road

It think Paolo and Andy got a shock yesterday when Mellisa outpaced them for KOM up West Mt Cotton rd. Mel has proven herslf amongst the men more than once this year. I hope there are sponsors out there taking notice and perhaps are willing to help her out financially next year. A lot of people dont know but Melissa does these exhausting rides then rides home and Massages 4 or 5 clients whilst most of us have a Nanna nap.
Keep up the good work everyone yesterday's average was faster than last week too. I think WRCC will have a few good road teams in a couple of grades next year.
