Welcome to the mid-year edition of E-cycle. While we are in a bit of a down time for racing – at least at the national level – many members are no doubt following the great spectacle that is the Tour de France on SBS 2 (HD); and on SBS 1 when the cricket is not being telecast.

Technical Regulation – Approved Wheels
The CA Technical Commission has recently released a communication reiterating the rule applicable to wheels that are approved by the UCI. This is an important reminder for all road cyclists. Please click here to view message.
CA on the Move
The date for the CA office relocation to Mascot (Sydney) is Friday 7 August. The CA office will not be operating on this day and there will be some limitations to staff access and services on Thursday 6 and Monday 10 August as we pack up and settle in. We are also anticipating that email service to the ‘cycling.org.au’ domain will be down over the weekend of 8/9 August. The second ‘switch’ telephone number (02) 9738 2500 will be retained at the new location along with individual staff numbers in this digital range; however, we regret to advise that the old analogue switch number (02) 9644 3002 will be lost; although we will apply automatic redirection for a period. We will advise of the new postal address and fax number as soon as details are confirmed.
Staff Movements
It is with some regret that we acknowledge the retirement of Ron Bonham after 19 years as a full time staff member of CA. Ron has been our longest serving employee and can look back with pride at a number of significant achievements for the organisation in the portfolios of Coach Education and Information Technology. Our very genuine thanks and appreciation is extended to Ron for his outstanding contribution to Australian cycling and CA. However, there is some good news – Ron will remain associated with CA on a part time consultancy basis working in the area of Sport Technology and Technical Consultant where his considerable experience and expertise will be highly valued. CA also welcomes new staff member Robert Ingall who has just started in the role of National Officiating and Masters Coordinator – previously occupied by Bill Clinch. Rob comes to the organisation with an extensive range of skills in the areas of administration, marketing and training that we believe will prove invaluable to these portfolios. He is also an accredited BMX Commissaire. We are sure you will all join with us in welcoming Rob to the team and wish him every success with the challenges ahead - Email Rob now! We also note that we are currently in the process of recruiting an additional staff resource in the administration and member services area. Click here to read more.

2009 Australian Masters Road Championships
The 2009 Australian Masters Road Championships will be held in Canberra – 1-5 October. Further information is available on the event website here.
Level 3 Commissaires Course – 27-29 September
Cycling Australia are pleased to advise of a Commissaire Level 3 training accreditation course to be conducted over 3 days (27-29 September) before the Australian Masters Road Championships in Canberra. Nominations are invited from current Level 2 Commissaires who wish to progress to officiating at National events. Upon successful completion of this course there may be an opportunity to immediately gain valuable experience at a National level by officiating at the Australian Masters Road Championships. Please contact Rob Ingall, National Development Coordinator – Officiating on 02 9738 2507 or Email Rob for further information.
International Insurance
CA recently renewed its overseas insurance and travel policy and regrettably, in response to the claims record there has been an increase in premium. However, we note that this cover is a compulsory inclusion with an international license and it has, time and again, proven to be an important safety net for cyclists heading overseas as it covers you when riding in competition and training. We also draw attention to the increase that now applies to members travelling to North America. For more information on international licences click here.
AustCycle
AustCycle, the new national cycling training scheme, has gone from strength to strength with fifteen AustCycle Teachers and ten Providers now operating across NSW. The recent training course in Brisbane in June launched the program into the Queensland market. Training courses will now be offered in both NSW and Queensland on a quarterly basis. Anyone interested in finding out more about the AustCycle program or in registering for a training course can visit www.austcycle.com.au.
